Royals stadium funding and location issues - Facebook

Where are we now on Royals? Bottom line is zero information being given by teams. Their response to requests for comment on stories about the potential sites has been- “We are not willing to say anything publicly” or “We are considering our options”. That’s no answer. We deserve better. They aren’t talking to City or County leaders either. Their response seems to be “We haven’t heard from teams or we are waiting for them to engage”. It will take an investment of significant dollars from teams and they haven’t committed to that either. None of the proposed options aka Star Bonds or Show Me Sports Investment Act can fund all of the project. Both have to generate their own benefit or cover shortfall on their own. So where does the rest come from? Apparently, Clay County is entertaining the idea of putting a dedicated tax on the ballot. I would suspect that would be a requirement to be able to offer the kind of guaranteed funding they want. I haven’t seen a shift in the Clay County taxpayers opinion on whether they would support that tax, so not sure where that can go. KS has said no tax will be placed on the ballot. So that leaves Jackson County and we said no to a downtown ballpark tax question. KC is apparently trying to figure out a way to fully fund it without Jackson County. That’s a big ask of taxpayers. However, they (KC) continues to offer bonding for one multi- million dollar project after another while they have a structural imbalance in their budget year after year and ignore warnings from the State on the consequences of continuing that pattern. Sometimes you have to lose a battle to win the war. This is shaping up to be that kind of situation. Unless Jackson County can get some sort of revenue sharing and control back of the TSC property, it will continue to be a loss for the County. Sometimes you must cut your losses. This group wants the teams to stay at TSC. They (teams) are losing the hearts and minds of the non sports fans and I assure you they far outnumber us. If the teams keep overplaying their hand, there may be no turning back and we might not be able to save them from themselves.

Potential Sale of Bill Evan Field and Badgett Stadium in College Park

Last night BIDA snuck off into executive session and accepted the quit claim deed for Bill Evan Field (home of Clark Atlanta Baseball’s Team) and half of Badgett Stadium. This is the first step to selling the property. According to Councilman Gay they are ready to sell it for 3 million dollars. We need everyone to start showing and speaking up at every single Council meeting.
